I am a veteran teacher with 23 years experience. My teaching assignments have included all levels of secondary English, along with Advanced Placement Literature, 9th grade gifted, composition, drama, and SAT preparation. At the post-secondary level, I have taught business English, Interpersonal Development, and reading classes at Augusta Technical College.
My other educational experiences include working two years designing the British Literature curriculum for Richmond County, serving as Language Arts Department Chair, and working with the school leadership team at Butler High School. My extracurricular work with students has involved mentoring students who were participating in the state one-act competition, creating yearbooks, writing the school newspaper, acting in the senior play, and designing the prom.
I am extremely proud to say I was a STAR teacher in 2012 and awarded as one of the top five Richmond County teachers for the 2014-2015 school year.
However, my proudest moment in teaching came when I saw a former student had framed and prominently displayed in his office the medal he won from the one act competition. The story goes on as this former student told me winning the medal “taught me the stage is my friend.” This statement proved true as he became the Richmond County Teacher of the Year.
I have a wonderful family. I have been blessed with a loving husband, a son currently serving in the Air Force, and a daughter working as a psychologist and university adjunct professor. I am also the proud human of a beautiful black Newfoundland, the dog love of my life. I also serve as the human for a miniature dachshund, a Siamese, and a tuxedo cat.
My other interests are road cycling, reading, watching science fiction, and sometimes running.
To satisfy any curiosity, my favorite book is Pride and Prejudice and my favorite movie, for after all I am a geek, Star Wars.
